The Wall of Celebrations

The Wall of Celebrations is an architectural textile wall descended from Thai traditional Krathong folding technique, built using Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) 3D printer, which extrudes thin layers of plastic filament to produce a three-dimensional prototype. However, the 3D printer has a limited build volume, therefore the wall prototype is divided into parts that fit within the printing area. As a result, over 130 parts are printed and attached together to form an architectural textile wall, which has a dimension of 1100mm. by 1800mm. Yet, the wall is supported by a sheet of plywood, holding all parts together and strengthening the overall structure. Additionally, the 3D printed wall is presented on a wooden easel, supporting it to stand upright.

Altogether, this textile wall is built in an enormous size, showing an architectural scale and allow the viewers to see a possibility of developing Thai traditional folding techniques into a new architectural element using current tools.
